The course will focus on the biology (morphology, reproduction, echolocation) and ecology (ecomorphology, feeding ecology, roostin ecology) of bats. Furthermore threats to bats and conservation measures to protect bats will be discussed.

The course will focus an the following topics:
- Evolution and diversity of bats: cryptic species
- Morphology: with special emphasis on flight
- Reproduction and population biology
- Echolocation
- Ecomorphology: interaction between wing design, echolocation and foraging habitats
- Feeding ecology: including techniques for analysing feeding habits
- Roosting ecology: roost types, roost switching
- Behaviour: mating behaviour, hibernation
- Methods in bat research
- Threats to bats
- Conservation measures and concepts
