Aims, contents and method of the course

Using basic statistical methods, the data gathered in the summer Alpine course are analyzed and interpreted, and a manuscript dealing with these results is prepared.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students obtain the capabilities to analyse statistically a self-gathered data set, to test explicit hypotheses, to discuss the obtained results in the context of our current understanding in the field, and eventually to synthesise all in a scientific manuscript ready for publication.

Examination topics

Statistical data analyses using the R package
Preparation of publication-ready figures and tables
Composing a scientific text (manuscript structure, hypothesis testing, incorporation of previous results, literature search)
