Aims, contents and method of the course

History of systematics from Aristoteles to the contemporaries. The relevant terminology - a horrible vocabulary. Are the controversial approaches - traditional taxonomy, numerical classification, evolutionary systematics, phylogenetic systematics - cultivated misunderstandings or is synthesis possible? The phenomenon "species" in theory and practice: species concepts, infrastructures. Speciation - the inconceivable instant. Cladistic biogeography: vicious circle or induction? The species in space and time - plight of characters in paleontology. Nomenclature is more than the juridical facet of systematics! Morphological approach (sensu latissimo) plus molecular advocatus diaboli - a heuristic monster!
