Aims, contents and method of the course

The extensive excursion leads through the Alps from the suboceanic north at Vorarlberg (incl. excursion into the Bregenzerwald and the biosphere reserve Großwalsertal) to the central subcontineltal Ötztal and Vinschgau (incl. Excursions to the Lower Engadin, Switzerland), and finally, to the submediterranean Southern Alps surrounding Lake Garda. Special areas such as the unique floodplaines at the Lech river but also zonal landscape regions will be demonstrated and explained considering vegetation description and analysis, conservation (with special attention to the NATURA2000-system) and landscape management. The excursion is specifically designed to demonstrate all those problems which a ecological manager will be faced with in alpine regions. Special attention is also paid for describing vegetation plots. Faunal elements will be consdiered by bird watching.
