Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Diversity of amphibians and their life cycles. Phylogeny of the Amphibia. Mating systems and sexual selection. Oviposition strategies, embryonic development. Larval development, phenotypic plasticity. Paedomorphosis. Dispersal, gene flow, metapopulations. Speciation and hybridization, hybridogenesis, gynogenesis.

Aims: Knowledge of the complex life cycles of amphibians; reflection on the relationship of observation, theory and experiment in evolutionary biology; understanding the importance of mesocosm experiments in population ecology;
