Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
Acdtive course participation. Oral presentation of seminar theme. Final presentation of group work and protocol.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Introduction of the students into the ecology of tropical ecosystems, focusing on (semi)natural ecosystems such as montane forests, lowland forests, paramo, mangroves etc.
Examination topics
Field course. Group work. Thematic preparation of students through seminar presentations. Scientific work in the field/at the Tropical Research Station La Gamba. Data evaluation and presentation in front of the other student´s groups in La Gamba.

The class introduces students in the ecology of the neotropical rainforests. During the excursion several types of tropical ecosystems, including cloud forests, lowland rainforests, mangroves and paramo will be visited. The field course will take place in the Austrian field station "La Gamba" in the pacific lowland rainforest and will focus on vegetation pattern, soils, climate and rivers.
