Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Identification, documentation, systematics and ecology of macrofungi, methods of mycological field research. Exploration of the roles of fungi in ecosystems, particularly in forest ecosystems, including mutualistic (mycorrhizal), parasitic and saprotrophic lifestyles. Edible and poisonous mushrooms

Assessment and permitted materials

Practical work (documentation, identification, data collection)
Oral presentation
Written exam

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The participants have gained insights into the diversity of macrofungi and their einvironments. They know the characters of macrofungi essential for identification and can use mycological literature (keys) for their identification. They know the various trophic groups of macrofungi and their roles in their environments and foodwebs. They are aware of the risks of poisonous mushrooms and know about concerns of environment and species protection. The know how to collect fungi responsibly.

Examination topics

Introductory lectures
Guided field work (collecting)
Analysis and documentation of macrofungi (drawings, description, photography)
Microscopical analysis and identification with mycological keys
Data collection with standardised tables, data analysis (trophic and systematic groups)
Presentation of the results
