Aims, contents and method of the course

Study design, statistical inference, sampling theory, power analysis, measurements, data management, modelling, reliability analysis, evaluation

Assessment and permitted materials

The participants will be asked to review four recent research paper and to answer questions concerning the applied methodology.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The aim of this course is to give an overview of the research methods employed in the area of cognitive biology. Special attention is paid to the theory behind the different research designs. After completion of the course participants should be able to evaluate the methodology used in scientific studies and to answer the questions "Why was the study performed in this way?" and "What are the consequences for the interpretation of the results?".
