Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this course is to explore and discuss recently published studies in soil microbial ecology, biogeochemistry and terrestrial ecosystem ecology. A list of new and relevant scientific papers will be provided by the course coordinator. We will also discuss methods of searching for scientific literature, and there will be the option of carrying out literature recherche projects on a defined topic within the field of soil microbial ecology in small teams, and presenting its results to the group. Each participant will give an oral presentation of one scientific paper of his/her choice during the course, or participate in a group recherche project.

After the course you should have 1) improved understanding and overview of the current research and open questions in soil microbiology and biogeochemistry and 2) trained your ability to search for scientific literature and to present complex scientific topics. Basic knowledge in terrestrial biogeochemistry, ecosystem ecology and/or soil microbial ecology will be helpful.

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral presentation of a scientific paper or review project, active participating in discussions
