In comparison to other areas, one distinctive feature of environmental protection policy is its basis in knowledge and insights empirically derived through the natural sciences. Thus, aspects of environmental protection policy often take on vital significance in the planning, development and ultimately authorization of large construction and infrastructure projects. Ensuing actions often become matters of contention between particular environmental protection interests and political practice.
q An introductory lecture (one hour per week) presents the essential instruments of environmental
protection policy in environmental law. Here the goal is consideration of the planning / legal founda-tion for the analysis of professional environmental protection processes in project development.
q In the accompanying seminar (two hours per week), example cases of project development are analyzed. Here the goals are the understanding of certain challenges inherent in the integration of
ecological protection concepts in technical planning, the use of ecological protection legal elements as well as the conduct of accompanying official and legal authorization processes.
Lecture and seminar are interdependent: fundamentally essential concepts are offered in compiled form in the lecture, content which is practically applied in the seminar. Here the subjects are among others the specific actors (authorities, parties and other interested individuals, organizations, etc.). It is planned that the seminar will be conducted by guest speakers with expertise in politics, jurisprudence as well as project management.
