Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Introduction to systematics and morphology of important economic plants; introduction to major biosynthetic pathways leading to secondary plant metabolites in selected economic plants; communication of relevant topics from both parts in relation to functional and applied aspects, across different scientific fields. Students' presentations of selected topics are welcomed if so desired.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam; positive credit when more than half of the points is reached.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Knowledge of major biosynthetic routes of secondary metabolites and their occurrence in important (economic) plants. Practical relevance of secondary plant products.

Examination topics

Lecture: introductory talks including demonstration of relevant plant material and literature. Students' contribution ("short talk" on one course day optional.
