Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Collecting flowers with ripe pollen. Preparation of pollen for observations with LM, SEM, and TEM. Study of living pollen to clarify cell number and type (vegetative cell vs generative cell vs sperm cells), pollen reserves, and pollen coatings using various staining methods. Pollen descriptions based on pollen morphology observed with LM and SEM and the wall ultrastructure observed with TEM. Analyzing various palynological samples (honey, sediments, dust, airborne, etc.). Pollen identification, and presentation and interpretation of pollen counts.
For students with basic knowledge on plants and environment. Recommended for those focusing on biology, botany, ecology, geology, paleontology, paleobotany, archeology, and allergy research.
