Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In this seminar we will discuss controversial topics in animal cognition. These topics will be chosen from the course material of the lectures Introduction to Cognitive Biology and Biology of Cognition
Assessment and permitted materials
Continuous assessment. The oral presentation, participation in the discussion and the essay will be part of the assessment.With good scientific practice in mind, essays will be checked for plagiarism with the Turnitin plugin in Moodle. Further, students will be required to provide statements about the use of generative AI technologies such as Large Language Models (e.g. ChatGPT) and text-to-image generators (e.g. DALL-E 2, Midjourney) in the preparation of the essay and the presentation slides.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Getting amore in-depth-knowledge about topics in animal cognition
Practising presentation technique and discussion of a controversial topic in a relaxed and informal atmosphere and to have a first go at developing a scientific argument in written form

Examination topics
Groups of 2 -3 students will chose one, out of a range of 20 controversial topics, and prepare a presentation based on selected articles. This presentation will be the basis for a general discussion among the students. Finally each group has to write an essay about their topic
Reading list
Literature on various current topics will be provided by the group teachers.
