Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Each student will select a 'peer-reviewed publication' from a journal with impact factor minimum 1.0. The topic can be any aspect of the personality trait "boldness" in animals. The students prepare background information on the authors and the context of the study, and then give a ppt presentation that presents the aims, methods, results, discussion, and critical thoughts about the paper.

Assessment and permitted materials

Critical discussion based on the content of the presentation and discussion about relevant theoretical frameworks and methods with the responsible persons and the scientists at the KLF.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students prepare a short 2 minute summary about the author(s) of the paper and the journal, number of citations, and journal impact factor (10%). Then, each student gives a 10 min ppt on the current research topic (boldness in animals). The assessment will be on 'clarity' and if the ppt was 'engaging' (visually appealing with an interesting storyline)(40% of marks), layout (10% of marks), critical examination of the paper (30%) and capacity to respond to questions (10%).

Examination topics

Students select a 'peer-reviewed publication' and consider the references cited in the paper they choose as supporting evidence, and/or find other papers that come to the same or different conclusion as the paper they are presenting.

For the ppt presentation, emphasis will be placed on their demonstrated understanding of the research question, methods, and conclusions drawn in the paper, and whether they seem to be logically sound or flawed.
