Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Current questions and methods of population biology will be applied to amphibian populations in Vienna. Research will focus on fire salamanders (fotographic registration of individuals, to estimate population sizes and home ranges), green toads and species from the Danube floodplain.Aims: Understanding of current topics in evolutionary ecology, knowledge of life histories of native amphibians, ability to apply research methods of population biology in field and laboratory, practice in writing scientific reports.Methods: Discussion of scientific papers, practical field research in small teams, data analysis and writing of reports.
Assessment and permitted materials
Assessment of practical work and written reports.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Minimal requirements: 50 hours field work, written report
Assessment criteria: 40% practical work and oral presentation, 60% written report (30% for accuracy of data presentation, 30% for quality of writing and graphical design)
