Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The practical course in immunology is organised in five parallel courses (Decker, Baccarini, Stockinger, Valenta, Hofer). Maximum number of students accepted is 30, divided into 5 groups. Each group spends three days per supervisor with a change of supervisor after every three days in order that every student attends the whole programme. The course takes three weeks in total.
Purpose of the course: Students should learn immunological techniques, e.g. working with cell culture (sterile handling of cell lines, transfection of cells, isolation and differentiation of primary cells from bone marrow and spleen), antiviral assays, fluorescence microscopy, luciferase assays, FACS, purification of antibodies, immune precipitation, Western blot
Evaluation of the course: Attendance during the whole course is compulsory, preparation before the course, practical work, final examination, protocol

Assessment and permitted materials

Compulsory attendance; the evaluation consists of different performances: active participation and results obtained, written report, theoretical knowledge including final exam (the percentage of the subgrades will be announced by the course leader); each of the subgrades must have a positive evaluation.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Experimental techniques applied to immunology. Interpretation of the results obtained and knowledge of the theoretical background.
