Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

- basics of different light microscopical methods,
- fluorescence microscopy and modern laser scanning microscopy
- documentation on video and film,
- computer enhanced super resolution video- and UV-microscopy

Assessment and permitted materials

Light microscopical techniques are standards for biological questions; therefore, the knowledge of these methods is essential in biology. This course is dealing with the methods that are linked to the light microscope.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

personal contributions during the course

analysis of an object in the light microscope with the different technique:
discussion, which techniques are adequate and which are not (oral presentation)

written evaluation of study progress during the course

Examination topics

Light microsc.: bright field, dark field, phase- and interference contrast, polarization
Fluorescence micr.: conventional and confocal laser scanning microsc.
Video- and UV microscopy
