The course is a blocked practicum between June 7th - 16th,
from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
The date for the concluding final seminar will be agreed during the course


Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

- basics of different light microscopical methods,
- fluorescence microscopy in wide field and laser scanning microscopy
- documentation on video and film,
- computer enhanced super resolution video- and UV-microscopy
- principles of preparation

Assessment and permitted materials

Active participation during the course

Analysis of two different plants in the various techniques of light microscopy and presentation and discussion of the experience in an oral final seminar

Written control of the course content during the course

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Light microscopic techniques as standard techniques in biologic research: In a hands-on training, with practical examples, the following techniques will be trained:
macro, stereo, brightfield and contrast techniques such as dark field, phase contrast, polarization, differential interference contrast, wide field and confocal fluorescence, documentation, preparation.

Examination topics

Light microsc.: bright field, dark field, phase- and interference contrast, polarization
Fluorescence micr.: conventional and confocal laser scanning microsc.
Video- and UV microscopy
