Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
During this lecture series, we will explore the fundamental concepts of evolutionary theory. As the basis for the course, we will read Charles Darwin’s “On the Origin of Species” (or, more completely, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life). I will update each chapter with current research, terms, concepts and gaps in knowledge.
Assessment and permitted materials
Students will take a written exam that asks them to define five core concepts and critically answer questions around one chapter of “On the Origin of Species”.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
A passing grade of 50% is required for the course. The lecture materials will be posted online however the lecture will not be recorded. In-class attendance is highly recommended.
Examination topics
Core concepts in evolutionary theory, lecture notes, Charles Darwin’s “Origin of Species” book.
Reading list
Please organise a copy of Charles Darwin’s “Origin of Species” as this will be the mandatory textbook.
