Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In this seminar we will discuss the finer aspects of zoological nomenclature as well as the application of species concepts in practice. The aim of this seminar is for students to recognize that the classification of species and their naming are not clear cut in many cases. Taxonomy in practice is often highly ambiguous and confronted with many theoretical and practical issues. We will discuss the process of recognizing new species and their description as it is being applied in present-day taxonomic science.
Assessment and permitted materials
Students are expected to actively participate in discussions and give a small presentation of approx 7-10 min in length on a selected piece of literature. Literature will be distributed throughout the seminar.
