Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Based on the course "Restoration Ecology and its Application in Nature Conservation" relevant ecological theories (e.g. regeneration of bogs and mires, revitalization of rivers, reintroduction of locally extinct species, reestablishment or mimicking of traditional land-use-systems) and concepts of restorative measures in nature conservation will be demonstrated by selected cases on site
Assessment and permitted materials
Finally students have to deliver completed records of the introduced projects
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
An overview of state-of-the-art restoration concepts (restoration of ecosystem-dynamics, conservation of traditional land use systems and landscape management, reintroduction of locally extinct species, etc.) will be given. Students should be able to identify endangered areas and to propose appropriate restoration approaches
Examination topics
The course will last 3 days. We will visit different restoration projects and discuss them with experts on site.
