Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The planned course will serve as an introduction to the field of phylogeography. Covered topics will include the basic principles of coalescent theory and basic phylogeographic inference. Since phylogeography often assesses the history of species, populations, and cryptic evolutionary lineages, we will also introduce methods of delimiting “species” based on molecular data.

Assessment and permitted materials

Credits will be given for a post-course computer exercise.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course aims to establish fundamental understanding of the historical processes governing present-day population structure.

Examination topics

The course will be given as a mix of lectures and hands-on practical exercises with existing data sets
