Groups of up to 4 students will work on a current topic on heterotrophic microbes and autotrophic (micro)organisms. This includes hands-on training on generally applied methods in the field on samples collected in the waters off Piran. The results of the individual research projects are to be presented as talk at the last day of the stay in Piran. Back in Vienna, the research will be summarized in a manuscript and structured as genuine scientific publication.
The overall goal is to obtain fundamental knowledge on how to accomplish a project, starting from planning the project, measurements in the field, data analyses up to the writing phase. It is thus imperative that some basic knowledge on the marine environment is available.
Suggested lectures and practica are: Meereskunde, Microbial Oceanography, Biological Oceanography, Introduction to the fauna and flora of marine habitats
