Aims, contents and method of the course

What are "cultural roots"? Overview of the history of conservation and case studies about conflicts and persons. Legal and economic aspcets of conservation in global perspective

Assessment and permitted materials

written exam with open questions about each theme, during the course students will be alerted to potential questions. A system with points for each question is used, main critereia are the level of detail and the understanding of the presented matter and if students can link the presented material to the practice of conservation. The exam has 9-12 questions and lasts 90 minutes. No material is allowed.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Overview of the historical development of conservation, its cultural, legal and economic frameworks and a general orientation in the field of environmental history

Examination topics

Lecture course with pictorial supporting material, student questions are encouraged, joint reading of key texts, if enough time remains.
