Anthropology in the Archive. The History of Anthropology through its Collections

During this seminary, we will approach the history of anthropology and its respective paradigms with tangible examples from the Department of Anthropology's historical collections. In doing so, we will encounter traveling anthropologists and their collection strategies from different eras, look into different archival sources and documentary media as to their role in the production of anthropological knowledge, explore theoretical as well as practical issues relating to the archive and its system of ordering, and not least discuss conservatory as well as ethical guidelines with a view to a responsible way of dealing with the anthropological archive in today's digital age.
