Aims, contents and method of the course

The first part of the lecture presents the theoretical background and methodology of vegetation ecology (phytosociology). Topics include the filter-model of the plant community, sampling design, deductive and inductive classification, vegetation databases, numerical methods, the association concept, character and differential species, constancy and fidelity, syntaxonomy, nomenclature. In the second part of the lecture, an overview of the vegetation types of Central Europe is given.
