Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture, prerequisite for the attached identification course, offers information on identification of Austrian aquatic invertebrate groups ranging from Protozoa to Bryozoa; the talks deal with all aspects of taxonomy, phylogeny, biology, ecology, identification, preservation and sampling techniques. In addition, the most important literature is presented.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam (1 hour), consisting of three questions on morphology, phylogeny, biology and ecology of aquatic invertbrates.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The participants are aware of the diversity of Austrian freshwater inverebrates and possess all theoretical basic skills necessary for practical identification work.

Examination topics

Lectures based on powerpoint and video presentations. The most important literature is presented, and handouts are distributed at the lecture's start.
