Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture is introducing you to the relevant theories of biology education research, including:
-theories for successful teaching and learning in biology (e.g. students' concepts, interests etc.)
- Theories of the competence area Inquiry Learning
- Theories for assessing learning processes
in natural history museums and other informal learning settings
- Theories on emotional aspects of learning in biology classes
- Theories of attitudes and values in the context of environmental awareness
and others

In addition, selected results from biology didactic research projects are presented for the respective theories.

On the one hand, the lecture is intended to prepare you for possible own research in biology education (e.g. in the context of a master thesis), on the other hand, it's intention is to present evidence-based recommendations for successful and effective biology teaching.

Assessment and permitted materials

The exams are held in person:
Written exam with presence: 60 minutes, multiple choice (closed, half-open and open) and open answer format

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

at least 50% of the maximum number of points are required for a positive completion of the written examination
