Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In this practical course the participants acquire the knowledge and expertise to annotate and analyze prokaryotic genome sequences. This includes gene prediction, prediction of protein functions and structures and comparative genome analyses. The analysis of complete, yet unpublished genome sequences in this practical course allows us to address recent scientific questions in microbiology and microbial ecology using genomic methodologies.
Assessment and permitted materials
Written report in the format of a publication.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Understanding and application of important computational methods for the analysis of genome sequences; automatic large-scale application of programs using small, self-written scripts; interpretation of the results of computational analyses with regard to the corresponding organism.
Examination topics
Diverse computational methods for genome analysis, programming language Perl.
Work in small work groups (each group analyzes another genome sequence).
Work in small work groups (each group analyzes another genome sequence).
Reading list
