Aims, contents and method of the course

This course introduces the analysis of human behavior from an evolutionary perspective, considering the question in how far behavior patterns can be interpreted as adaptations to the physical and social environment. Lecture topics start with the foundations of the discipline, its concepts and methods, and then span from human problems of survival, challenges of sex and mating, parenting and kinship, hierarchies and stress to the evolution of language and culture.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam-- multiple choice (no materials permitted) based on the content of the lectures and scientific documentaries. Content from the literature that will be provided additionally will not be part of the exam. Answers in German or English.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

15 questions, each with 4 answers, at least one of which is correct.
1 point for each completely correct answer.
As long as no wrong answer is selected, partial points are added.
If an incorrect answer is selected, the question is awarded 0 points.

Grades: max. 15 points
