Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
A "hand on" field course in conservation biology to practically learn and apply different methods and approaches for habitat mapping in Central European landscapes. Special emphasis lays on the elaboration of a tailor-suited methodology, that takes into account regional differences in landscape character and related conservation goals. Duration of the course is one week, each day is spent in the field with a work programme that step by step leads to a final evaluation of the actual and desirable state of habitats and landscapes. The work programme is conducted by small groups consisting of 3-4 participants. Each group is preparing an individual report which contains a landscape assessment, description of mapping methodology and biotope/habitat types, final results of the mapping procedure, and recommendations for landscape management which is compliant with regional nature conservation aims.
