Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course gives an indroduction to basic and currently used techniques applied in Limnology and Aquatic Ecology. A focus is placed on the interaction between microbial plankton compartments, organic material and abiotic conditions. The main target is to learn the application of methods relevant for a comprehensive understanding of the ecological role of microorganisms in natural aquatic systems. The fieldwork is conducted in a river- or lake-system near Vienna. Students work in groups, discuss their results and produce a report in the style of a manuscript for a scientific article.
