Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course provides the basics on scientific documentation for analogue and digital photography and is open to all biology students, bachelors and masters. The students work independently with their own cameras (if available) to document moving and still objects on black/white, slide and digital material. The hands-on course also includes dark room techniques, macro/micro photography, and the modern methods of digital photography, photo administration and post-processing.
Assessment and permitted materials
Four criteria: presence, engagement, mid-term exam (written), final presentation (oral).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The students learn to choose the right photographic tools for different given motifs. Subsequently, they learn editing and finishing of pictures in the darkroom and/or on the computer. The students know about the properties of pictures depending on the intended purpose.
Examination topics
Analogue and digital SLR-bodies; lenses of different focal lengths; devices for macro, micro, 3D, panorama and portrait photography; BW film development and enlarging in the darkroom; digital editing in Adobe Photoshop.
