Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This lecture series deals with a general introduction to electron microscopy in life sciences, with an introduction to the techniques of scanning and transmission electron microscopes, as well as accompanying instruments, an introduction to the methods of preparation of biological samples for electron microscopy, and the application of these methods to special biological objects and current topics or projects.
Assessment and permitted materials
Written examination ( dates to be determined)
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
This lecture aims at awakening the students' interest in this wide field of biological scientific research possibilities and to show the facilities at our faculty. A guided tour through the Core Facility Cell Imaging and Ultratructure Research is planned. It should also serve as preparatory teaching and as overview for the many practical courses that are offered in our Core Facility for deepening knowledge and practical application of the special techniques (300674 PP Submicroscopical anatomy and preparatory techniques in electronmicroscopy , 300156 PP Advanced techniques of electronmicroscopy and ultrastructural research, 300034 PP Heavy metal stress: ecology of organisms - Ecology of organisms from heavy metal habitats: Strategies to cope with stress, 300190 PP Hands-on Cryopreparation techniques and Immunolabelling for Light and Electron Microscopy).
