First full-day excursion to Perchtoldsdorf: Sa 11 May 2024, meeting point 9 o'clock in Vienna-Rodaun, at the final stop of tram 60.
Second full-day excursion to Neuwaldegg: Sa 15 June 2024, meeting point 9 o'clock in Vienna-Neuwaldegg, at the final stop of tram 43.

Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims:
Students can describe and identify the most relevant species of ferns and seed plants of Central Europe (Vienna and surroundings). Additionally, they can characterize those species ecologically with respect to habitat requirements and inhabited vegetation types.

Contents:
Ferns and seed plants of Central Europe, specifically their characteristics, their habitats and their role in the most important vegetation types in the surroundings of Vienna.

Methods:
Excursion (presentation by the course leader in the field)

Potential costs:
excursion flora (recommended, but not mandatory): ca. 40 Euro
tickets for public transport (in case none are already available): ca. 10 Euro

Assessment and permitted materials

One interim test (each 10 points, jointly amounting to 50% of the points achievable in the course) each per excursion in the field on the topics of the respective excursion (for both interim tests students can use their field notes); written protocol (20 points and thus amounting to 50% of the points achievable in this course) on both (!) excursions: species list sorted by vegetation type plus a short and single characterization per each vegetation type; The final deadline for finishing this course is 15 July 2024.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirement for positive credit: 20.25 points (of totally 40 points). These 40 points are distributed as follows: 10 points for the test after the first excursion, 10 points for the test after the second excursion, 20 points for the protocol (6 points for habitat descriptions, 8 points for assignment of species to these habitats, 6 points for correct spelling of taxa names).
