Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course aims to convey the basics of risk management and safe working in laboratories to students and familiarize them with the relevant national, European and international legal frameworks.
The focus is on the safe handling of chemicals, biosafety (especially working with pathogenic and genetically modified organisms), and handling ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. Besides, general safety precautions in laboratories (e.g. fire) are dealt with.
The course is held online as a seminar. The seminar takes place online on WED from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Preliminary discussion and admission and takes place on March 5th at 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. In the next 5 units, various laboratory safety topics are presented, and group work on the respective topics and case studies is distributed. These case studies are then presented and discussed in the remaining appointments. In the last session, there is a final discussion and a final online cooperation review. The grading is based on an online test and the elaboration of the case study, including the course presentation.

The assessment criterion is the number of points achieved in the review and the case study preparation and presentation: 50-60% 4, 60-80% 3, 80-90% 2, + 90% 1

Examination topics

The exam will be based on the risk assessments carried out in the training course and the presentations.
