Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this exercise course we will identify specimens of the most important groups of liverworts and mosses by microscopic and morphological criteria; students should get knowledge on the terminology used in the most common identification keys; 2 days will be spent in the field to convert laboratory knowledge into field work and for a better understanding of ecosystem function of bryophytes in their ecosystems; students are advised to attend the lecture "Introduction to bryology" (809079).
It is aimed that after attending this course, students should be able to identify themselves the most common bryophyte species in Austria.

Assessment and permitted materials

1) Talks between students and lecturer during the course
2)Attendence list
3) Compulsory attendance at the excursion being part of the course
4) Practical test: Identification of two bryophytes

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Examination topics

Main systematic groups of bryopyhtes will be identified by means of microscopes and fresh moss material
