Aims, contents and method of the course
Cheap fossil fuels have lead to prosperity but are also causing climate change. What will be the future role of fossil fuels? What are the chances of renewable energies?Depending on the interest of the students other topics will be included such as economic considerations, invest policy of a large industrial company, authority approval, future of nuclear energy.

Oral examination.

Target of the lecture is to teach basic knowledge onThe energy landscape of Austria, Europe and the world
The economic dependency on fossil fuels
The physical background of climate change
Realistic potentials of renewable energies and political targets
State of the development of the various technologies (wind, photovoltaic, water power, ) and outlook into the future
Bio-fuels of 1st and 2nd generation
Criteria for the evaluation and comparison of different technologies (e.g. carbon foot print)
