Aims, contents and method of the course

Cheap fossil fuels have led to prosperity but are also causing climate change. What will be the future role of fossil fuels? What are the chances of renewable energies? Main topics will be the physical background of climate change, state of the art of various renewable energies including future outlook – if possible, bio fuels first and second generation, the key role of hydrogen, e- mobility, criteria for the evaluation and comparison of different technologies (e.g. carbon foot print). Austria and EU have set ambitious targets, can these be reached in spite of the actual war in Ukraine?
Depending on the interest of the students other topics will be included such as economic considerations, invest policy of a large industrial company, authority approval, future of nuclear energy etc.
The lecturer is looking forward to lively discussions. In the first lecture the content of the lecture will be presented in details.

Knowledge of all main topics of the lecture;
knowledge of important data needed for making decisions, magnitude is sufficient (e.g. world energy demand, climate targets);
