Aims, contents and method of the course

The field course is centered on quantitative methods for estimating population sizes of amphibians, by means of spawn counts, call surveys, and mark-recapture of individually registered animals. Field work in Vienna (Vienna Woods, Danube floodplain) will establish baseline data for long-term monitoring of populations and provide the participants with knowledge of the ecology of locally occurring species and insights into conservation problems in urban areas.
