The first part (Grabherr) deals with basic concepts of nature and landscape conservation such as biodiversity, extinction processes, conservation biology, ethical background, conservation history (success and failures), and global change, the second part (Grünweis, Wrbka) with landscape patterns, landscape types, landscape history, and landscape management, the third (Reiter) with the assessment of biodiversity, methodologies for spatial pattern analysis, and the fourth (Steiner) with conservation measures (protection by law, international regulations, management, restoration).
