Aims, contents and method of the course
The lecture series insight into real-world nature conservation, by presenting and discussin international and Austrian case-studies. Selected studies are showcases for the practical application of ecologigcal theories in planning and managing nature-reserves and are puttin light on their socio-economic and cultural context. The variety of cases covers well-established lage-scale reserves (eg. Nationalparks, Biosphere-reserves) local and regional reserve types (eg. nature monuments), but will also encompass planning and policy-instruments which are outside the classic domain of nature conservation but very doing so a critical evaluation of strategies and success of modern nature conservation will be provided.
