300342 VO Nature Conservation - Strategies, Programmes, and Demonstration-cases (2021W)

The lecture series gives insight into real-world nature conservation, by presenting international and Austrian case-studies. Selected studies illustrate the practical application of ecological theories in planning and managing nature-reserves in the light of their socio-economic and cultural context. The cases cover large-scale reserves (eg. national parks, biosphere reserves), local and regional reserve types (eg. nature monuments, focal species), but also encompass planning and policy instruments. Collectively the examples allow for approaches how to evaluate the success of nature conservation.
