Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Attention: this is an advanced course, you need to have basic skills in GIS!

The different topics include spatial data properties, spatial data models and data structures, data collection (GPS, open data), projection , data manipulation and presentation of spatial data. The lecture aims to show the students the important role of Spatial Analysis in all the different fields of environmental analysis, landscape planing, conservation biology and accordingly its human dimension.
The computer-based laboratory exercise will develop advanced and practical skills of handling spatial data in a specific GIS environment (QGIS). We will also use the commercial package ArcGIS Pro (ESRI), student license available via ZID (u-soft).

Assessment and permitted materials

The final mark is composed of varios elements:
- attendence and ACTIVE participation in online live classes is mandatory and part of the final mark
- students have to work on a couple of exercises during the course and submit the results to moodle
- assignments are partly group work, so prepare to find peers you prefer to learn with
- an online quiz to check for your theoretical knowledge

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

All assignments have to be uploaded and must be at least partly correct to pass the course! percentage of all over mark: 65%
Assignments and Exercises have to be submitted on time, belated submissions result in decreased points
Active attendencd of live classes and submission of erxercises count for 20% of the all over mark
Quiz counts for 15%
