Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The exercises are aimed at demonstrating inexpensive, instructive but easy-to-do experiments which are may be used by high school teachers. Topics are from the area of animal physiology. The students will learn practical skills for successfully conducting and demonstrating experiments.

Assessment and permitted materials

The grade is determined by completion of three assignments, one oral and two written, each of which comprises one-third of the final grade.
The first assignment is the presentation of an experiment. On the first and second days of the course you will be in a group of 2-4 people, which will organize two experiments and demonstrate one of them to the other course participants. The presentation will be evaluated on the basis of its content and organization. Please note that the group itself receives a general grade. Although each group will conduct two experiments, they will give a presentation on only one of them; thus about six groups will make a presentation on the first day of the course, the remaining groups will do theirs on the second day.
The second and third assignments will be the compilation of two reports on your respective experiments of the first and second course days. Since you as a group of 2-4 people have organized and conducted the experiments together, you can also compile and hand in the two reports on a group basis. The reports will be evaluated on their content and organization.
It would be best to hand in both reports by e-mail as a "Microsoft Word Document" (christian.schubert@meduniwien.ac.at); this has the advantage of you receiving your reports back quickly by e-mail, graded and provided with commentary. Handing in a second, revised version of the report is possible. In this case only the better of the two grades will be considered for the final grade. Please hand in your reports within three weeks of the last course day at the latest.
