Aims, contents and method of the course

Historical development and general order of contents of the European Water Framework Directive (WFD). Specific aspects of the aquatic vegetation as a biotic quality element. The aquatic ecosystem and the status of macrophytes. Evaluation and classification of macrophyte results. Covering relevant aspects of the Habitats-Directive. Knolwedge & experience of macrophyte sites in running and floodplain waters.

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral part (lecture) and protokoll (field part).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Conveying basics of European and Austrian legislation principles. Knowledge of WFD contents specific to aquatic vegetation. Knowledge of methods related to the qualitative and quantitative assessment of the aquatic vegetation, species level, and it methodological and organisational prerequesites. Management and elaboration of survey results. Experience of running and floodplain water examples.

Lectures and application of methods in the field.
