Please bring: writing materials, small collection containers, a hand lens, and a pocketknife to the excursion.

MEETING POINT FOR THE 1ST EXCURSION:
Meeting point: 9:30 AM sharp at the parking lot at the end of Maurer Lange Gasse.
Directions:
By tram: Take tram 60 (direction Rodaun) from Hietzing (U4) to the stop "Maurer Lange Gasse" (one stop after "Maurer Hauptplatz"). Then walk uphill through Maurer Lange Gasse to the parking lot (approx. 15 minutes).
Alternatively, by bus: Take bus 60A (direction Wien Liesing) from Atzgersdorf to the stop "Kaserngasse" (departure from Atzgersdorf at the S-Bahn station).
Excursion details:
Hike through the Maurerwald: thermophilic oak-mixed forests at the Flysch-Limestone-Wienerwald boundary. Wear warm shoes and clothing, and bring rain protection! Mushroom collecting is usually done at a slow pace. A discussion of the findings will take place at around 1:00 PM at the parking lot.

2nd Excursion: Saturday, October 11, 2025, 9:32 AM–approx. 4:00 PM
Meeting point: 9:32 AM at Rekawinkel train station.
Departure: 8:56 AM from Westbahnhof on S-Bahn S50. Arrival: 9:31 AM at Rekawinkel.
Details: Half-day hike through beech forests and streamside vegetation.
3rd Excursion: Saturday, October 18, 2025, 9:30 AM–approx. 2:00 PM
Meeting point: 9:30 AM in the northeastern part of the Perchtoldsdorfer Heide, near the information boards. Discussion of findings: Around 12:00 PM at the same location.
Directions to the meeting point:ccessible via Doktor-Gorlitzer-Gasse. At the upper end of the street (northern end of Lohnsteinstraße), take the stairs between the rehabilitation center and the water supply facility. Continue straight along the path through the ravine. After a few meters, the meeting point (location of the discussion) is on the right side of the path near the information boards.

Important notes:
The Perchtoldsdorfer Heide is a valuable and protected habitat for many rare species. Dogs must be kept on a leash, and owners are required to clean up after them.


Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Floristics, systematics, ecology and edibility of mushrooms in the field, together with the Austrian Mycological Society
field excursions with debriefing of fungi. Recognition and evaluation of fungal diversity and ecology in the field, knowledge about judgement of edibility of mushrooms.

Assessment and permitted materials

Participation in two out of the three excursions, submission of a report for two excursions consisting of a list of findings and a detailed description of three fungi per excursion, by Christmas.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

As complete a self-written species list as possible and a well-crafted, independent description of the selected fungal species.

Examination topics

Analysis of the found/presented fungal species using literature and/or the internet.

Reading list

Several popular mushroom books are suitable, choose what you like.
