Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Students will design and carry out projects using x-ray microtomographic (microCT) images of small biological samples and produce a research report in the form of a poster or paper. Techniques will include applications of image processing and analysis software to 2- and 3-D images, 3-D image reconstruction and visualization, and 3-D modeling. Students should enroll in Imaging and visualization in developmental biology (UE 300530) also.
Assessment and permitted materials
Based on attendance, participation, project proposal, and final presentation.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students will learn to write a project proposal, carry out a small research project, and how to present the results, while learning techniques and applications of 3D microscopic imaging.
Examination topics
Seminar discussions, independent reading, and small-group work with instructors.
Reading list
Literature specific to each project will be chosen by the instructors and students during development of the projects.
