Aims, contents and method of the course

Biologists are, in their day-to-day work, regularly confronted with subjects potentially ambigous from the ethical point of view. The lecture takes up fields of conflicting views and intends to provide a knowledge basis for personal or institutional decisions in such situations.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES:
- Examples of biological subjects and themes with potential of ethical conflicts
- Creation of awareness for the necessity of the inclusion of ethical aspects into planning and decision making in the framework of scientific projects
- Provision of a knowledge basis for ethical decisions

The lectures will be held online. Lecture material will be made available in moodle. Please register for access to the moodle course.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND GRADING SCALE:
The written exam will be conducted online. The procedure will be explained in detail in advance.

28-30 points: excellent (1)
24-27 points: good (2)
23-20 points: satisfactory (3)
16-19 points: sufficient (4)

WRITTEN EXAMINATION:
- Application of what has been learned based on two examples
- Learning material for the exam: Powerpoint, literature, internet links, discussion during the lectures.
