Aims, contents and method of the course

In applied conservation, the comprehensive knowledge of protected assets and their biology is an important requirement to quantify the conservation relevance of human activities on habitats and their species assemblages. In the framework of this teaching course we will give an introduction on protected assets of the fauna and flora of the Donau-Auen National Park and its vicinity. Furthermore, participants will learn the identification of species und species assemblages of conservation relevance.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment of performance in the field; short presentations on species of conservation relevance; preparation of report

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Knowledge of selected plant and animal groups (e.g. butterflies, birds) with focus on taxa of conservation relevance; understanding of species-specific threats
